Tip: You can search this page to find words of interest (use the
Edit | Find... or similar command in your web browser).
General
-
Where can I get the latest version?
- The latest version of Multiquence is available on the
Multiquence download page.
-
What are the system requirements?
- Multiquence requires an 800MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, a sound
card and Windows ME, 2000, XP, Vista or later. Windows 95 and 98 are not
supported. A recent version of DirectX is required. QuickTime 7
or later (or iTunes) must be installed for working with MOV and M4A files.
-
How do I upgrade Multiquence?
- To upgrade, download the latest
self-installing file and run it. Install it into your existing
Multiquence folder to replace all the older files. If upgrading from
a beta version or a much older version, it is recommended that you
uninstall the older version first.
-
Is Multiquence available on CD or in stores?
- The software is available by
download
only. The file is under
1MB and takes only a few minutes download on a 56k modem.
Although you are welcome to make a backup copy on a CD, you can
always download a copy from the website when needed. Since there
is no real advantage to providing a CD, that option is
not offered.
-
Is Multiquence free?
- No. Multiquence is shareware. This means that you can download
and try it for free, but you are required to
purchase a license if you decide to
keep using it.
-
What is that toll counter in the status bar?
- The status bar counter gives you a good idea of how much you use
the software. It keeps a running total of all the commands you have
used since installing it. The counter is completely removed
when the software is licensed.
-
How do I purchase Multiquence and how much does it cost?
- See the Purchase page for details.
-
Is phone support available or can I purchase by phone?
- Sorry, GoldWave Inc. currently does not provide phone support/purchasing.
For support options, see the Support page.
For purchasing options, see the Purchase page.

Is there a tutorial or demo project?
- A demo/tutorial is available here. To use the tutorial:
- Download the Demo/Tutorial (only 10 kb) zip file.
- Open the zip file (mqdemov.zip) to extract all the files into a new folder
(WinZip or
PKZIP may be needed to
extract the files if you are not using Windows ME or XP).
- Run Multiquence.
- Use the File | Open command to open the DemoVid file
located in the folder where you extracted the files.
-
To make the video window big enough to clearly see the demo, choose the
Video Window button on the upper right side of Multiquence.
- Choose the Play button or the Playback | All command.
-
Where can I find more help?
- Most of the commands in Multiquence include a Help button.
You can use the Help | Contents menu command to find
additional information. If you've encountered a problem,
try the Troubleshooter. Also check
the forums.
For books on the subject, search on
Amazon.com for "computer audio
and video editing".
Installing/Setup
-
How do I install Multiquence?
- Simply download the self-installing file
and run it. It will ask you where to install Multiquence and whether
or not to create shortcuts and menu items.
If you have any trouble installing the software, try the
Troubleshooter.
Note that administrator privileges may be required on some
versions of Windows.
-
How do I uninstall Multiquence?
- Use the "Windows Add/Remove Programs" feature, under
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs,
then select the Multiquence item and choose the Remove button.
-
Where do I enter my license?
- You'll need to run Multiquence, then close the Help window (if it
appears). You can then enter the license into the program as
explained in the "Multiquence License" message.
Recording
-
How do I record from the CD-ROM or line-in?
- There are a couple of ways to record in Multiquence:
- Use the View | Window | Recorder command and select the
appropriate recording source from the drop down list.
- Use Track | Create recording section to create a recording
section. Once created, double-click the left mouse
button on the section or use Section | Options. Select the
appropriate input from the Record source drop down list.
-
How can I record a new synchronized track while playing existing tracks?
- Use the Track | Create recording section command. When you
play the project, the audio is recorded in that section. After
recording, you can use section options to set the section to "Play"
mode.
-
Why does recording not work or why does a "device is already in
use" message appears when recording?
- Multiquence needs to be able to play and record audio at the same time.
If you only have one sound card, you will need to install (or
enable) a "full duplex" driver or install a second sound card.
It must support stereo, 16 bit, full duplex mode. Some cards,
such as the Sound Blaster only simulate this mode by using 8 bit
quality for recording or playback. Other cards support only mono
full duplex. If you are using a "recording section", try using
the Recorder window instead (View | Window | Recorder).
-
New recordings are noisy in Multiquence, but fine in other audio
programs.
- Your sound card does not support true 16 bit full duplex, which means
that playback uses 16 bit mode and record is done in 8 bit or mono
mode. You can reserve 16 bit mode for recording by enabling the
Reserve 16 bit recording option under Options |
Playback. If you are using a Recorder window, start recording
before playing the project.
Files
-
How can I make Multiquence find files that were moved to a
different folder?
- Before opening a project, use the Options | Folder command and
specify the new folder where the files are stored. If Multiquence
cannot find the file at its original location, it searches all
these folders to find the file.
-
Why do I get an error when saving in MP3 format?
- To save and create MP3 files the LAME MP3 Encoder must be
installed.
To install LAME:
- Download a copy of the LAME file.
- Run the download to extract and install the files.
- Use the Windows Start | Search | For Files or Folders
command to find the Lame_enc.dll file.
- Copy the Lame_enc.dll file to the folder where you
installed Multiquence, usually C:\Program Files\Multiquence, or
the Windows\System folder
(Windows 98/ME) or Windows\System32 folder (Windows2000/XP).
To save in MP3 format, use File | Save as audio and
select the MPEG Audio (*.mp3) type and one of the listed MPEG attributes.
Use bitrates of 128kbps or higher and a sampling rate of 44100Hz for
high quality.
If you get an error message, make sure that the
Lame_enc.dll file is installed in the correct folder.
-
Why is the audio or video missing when I add a video file that
contains audio?
- Multiquence adds audio and video in separate sections. Usually the
video is added to one track and the audio is added to a different
track, just below the video. If a file contains both audio and
video, but only one appears, Multiquence may not be able decode
the contents of the file. This may occur for MPEG and MOV files,
when decoders are not available.
To add audio only, use the Track | Add audio section or
hold down the Ctrl key when adding the video file. Also, you can
use the GoldWave audio editor to extract the audio
into a separate wave file, then add that file to the project.
-
Why doesn't Multiquence play 2 MIDI files simultaneously?
- Multiquence does not support multiple MIDI devices. You'll
need to play the MIDI file in Windows Media player, record the
sound card output in the Multiquence
Recorder Window,
then add that recording to Multiquence instead.
-
Why does only one MP3 file play at a time?
- Windows Media Player 9 (or later) is required to decode MP3
files properly. The MP3 decoder included with older versions of
Media Player is not able to play several MP3 files within one
application at the same time. Installing the latest version of
Media Player will correct that problem.
-
Why do I get an error when saving WMV files?
- You must have Windows Media Player 9 (or later) installed to save as WMV.
-
Why do I get an error when adding or saving QuickTime MOV files?
- Multiquence supports only older MOV files (ones that can be played
in Windows Media Player). If you have more recent MOV encoded files,
the latest version of the
QuickTime Player
from Apple must be installed.
-
How do I save in MPEG1, MPEG2, VCD, or SVCD format?
- You must download and extract the
bbMPEG.DLL
file (and bbMPEG.HLP for help) into the folder where Multiquence is installed
(usually "C:\Program Files\Multiquence").
Restart Multiquence if it is running. The "MPEG2/VCD/SVCD" file type will be
listed under the File | Save as video command if the bbMPEG.DLL file is
found. If not, make sure the file is extracted from the
above ZIP download and copied to the correct folder
(copying the download won't work, the DLL file and HLP file must be
extracted from the download, then copied).
After selecting the "MPEG2/VCD/SVCD" file type in Multiquence and choosing
the Save button, use the Settings button to set the output format
(MPEG1, MPEG2, VCD, or SVCD). See the bbMPEG help for more information.
-
Why do I get a DirectX error when saving video files?
- Select a different video format, such as "Uncompressed RGBA"
or "MJPEG Compressor". Also try changing the resolution (width and
height may need to be even numbers or a multiple of 16).
Video
-
How can I make the video appear less blocky?
- If you are previewing the video in "windowed" mode, close the video
window and then hold down the Ctrl key and click on the Windowed Video
button (upper right button in Master control area) to get a higher
resolution preview.
If you are "saving as video", select higher width and height
values. Note that the final quality depends on the source video
files. If the source files are low resolutions and blocky, the
final video will be the same regardless of the width and height
settings.
-
How can I make captions smoother?
- Use Section | Options and increase the Render width/height
values (such as 640 and 480). You will need to increase the font
size as well (select the text, then use the font button). If the
edges of the font look blurry, turn off the "smooth font" effect
under the Windows Display settings (see the Windows help for
details).
-
Why does audio and video synchronization drift off?
- Variable bitrate encoded video files are virtually impossible to
synchronize accurately. Use constant bitrate encoding when capturing video files
or convert existing files to a constant bitrate before adding to a Multiquence project.
